Hopes to create a golf resort on the Wirral Peninsular has been called in by 18 Wirral Conservative Councillors by spending a further £600,000.

However, this spending will be on hold until it can be scrutinised at a Town Hall committee.

This was decided after a ‘call in’ of the decision by the Council’s Cabinet on Monday 7th November.

Wirral Council has already spent more than £230,000 just on assessing whether this plan for a new golf resort is feasible.

During the ‘call in’, it was said that this project has the potential to be fully debated by the Council.

Issues such as the impact of traffic, wildlife, greenery and the effects on Wirral’s Green Belt can be fully explored, to both economically provide benefits to locals and to the Wirral as a whole.

Councillor Chris Blakeley, of Moreton and Saughall Massie, said: “Wirral Council spending should be focussed on priority services. We believe a decision to spend further money on the project should be looked at more carefully.”

“The Council must also complete its consultation on the proposal before committing further cash. Otherwise, it will be exposing the Council Taxpayer to the risk of losing almost a million Pounds on a project that may never see the light of day.”
